June 25, 2021: Anjul Bhandari, a renowned Indian Chikankari designer, has unveiled ‘Tabeer,' her latest collection for men and women for 2021. The collection was made purely at home by Lucknow's female craftsmen. The design is perfect for friendly gatherings and close-knit wedding celebrations, which are becoming increasingly popular this season.
“Tabeer signifies the personal culture, values and hopes of the artisans coming together to form a collection which showcases the artist’s perception and creative aesthetic. A manifestation of their dreams with our passion for preserving a heritage craft of India. The collection is a statement in understated elegance,” says Ms. Bhandari.
The collection is made from sustainable handwoven fabrics and includes a variety of light ensembles that emphasize the exquisite skill of Chikankari. It's a mix of subtle sequins, baby pearls, and handcrafted Chikankari in pastel colors on fabrics like chiffon, georgette, and organza, which are all perfect for this season.
Ivory, white, aqua, blush pink, old rose, baby blue, mint, and sage green have been used to form a delicate mood board that emphasizes Chikankari's old-world elegance and charm. The collection's mainstays are traditional silhouettes including Lehengas, Shararas, A-line Kurtas, and free-flowing organza Chikankari jackets.
The menswear collection comprises of timeless kamdani kurtas, and elegant pintucked kurtas with mukaish work. Other classic must-haves are “jaal” kurtas paired with kamdani sherwanis to make a perfect statement at weddings. The kurtas and sherwanis can also be meticulously styled with handwoven luxurious chikankari pashmina shawls.
As the post-pandemic consumer continues to inspect and invest in eternal, valuable pieces, Tabeer fulfils that demand, while also paying homage to the artists of Lucknow who make a living from this craft in these tough circumstances.
