Jaeger-LeCoultre teams with Chaplin’s World, presenting two watches the actor wore

Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox worn by Charlie Chaplin

March 14, 2016: Swiss maison, Jaeger-LeCoultre announces its partnership with Chaplin’s World, a soon-to-open museum dedicated to the renowned artist.

The watchmaker has provided the museum with a couple of iconic timepieces, which once dangled on Charlie Chaplin’s wrist. Jaeger-LeCoultre has recently restored an antique Memovox watch, gifted by the Swiss cantonal authorities to the filmmaker and actor upon his move to Switzerland in 1953. For more than half a century, it has been passed down in the Chaplin family and now – tweaked to its former glory – will grace the manor house of Chaplin’s World.

Jaeger-LeCoultre has also loaned the museum an Atmos Classique, identical to the watch presented to Chaplin by the Swiss press photographer association in 1872, when he received the “Camera souriante” award. Set to live on air, as temperature variations wind its movement, the timepiece will be on display in the Manoir du Ban section.

Chaplin fans and watch lovers, alike, will be able to marvel at the exquisite Jaeger-LeCoultre pieces, starting April 17, when Chaplin’s World (chaplinmuseum.com) is set to open.
