Nestled right in the heart of Mumbai, surrounded by beautiful buildings and stunning facades, Shantnu and Nikhil’s new flagship store in Kala Ghoda is housed within a 133-year-old building.
This is the 16th store by the luxury fashion brand and comes close on the heels of a new couture store at Defence Colony, New Delhi, and after a blockbuster year of 10 new store openings of ‘S&N by Shantnu & Nikhil’ across New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. ‘S&N by Shantnu & Nikhil’ is the house’s bridge to luxury brand which was launched in 2020. The designers also recently won rave reviews for their cricket inspired label ‘Shantanu Nikhil Cricket Club’ and have just launched their global e-store.
Marking another path breaking milestone in the brand’s fashion journey of 22 years, the store reflects the designer’s ethos and spirit to reinvent. Designer Shantnu Mehra said, “Opening our flagship couture store at Kala Ghoda Mumbai is a proud milestone in our journey of twenty-two years. We have always been driven by ‘Anti-trend’- an emotion that is deep rooted within the brand DNA, as we challenge the age-old perceptions of luxury to create a renewed outlook of ‘neo-luxury’. At our new couture store, we present an array of timeless silhouettes, supreme hand craftsmanship and contemporary oomph in a location where we have respected what we discovered and added to its personality, to reflect the unique character of the heritage precinct.”
The heritage building gets a completely new chic aesthetic with modern infusion by acclaimed architect Viraj Kataria. The designers breathed new life into this historic building by amplifying the architectural beauty of this 2264 sq. ft. space with contemporary elements. The Burma teak roof was restored to its original form, along with steel columns that supported large wooden beams, symbols and patterns in plaster on the façade. Original fire bricks and basalt stone from 1890 – hidden behind the original lime plaster on the walls – were brilliantly restored to showcase the vibrancy of a vintage India.
Austere furnishing and subtle shades of black and gray enhanced the interior while the spiral staircase leading up to the second level added an edgy element.
Designer Nikhil Mehra said, “With light meeting dark and old school marrying the contemporary, here we celebrate distinctiveness in design, encapsulating the rich splendor of vintage India blending it with the edgy & individualistic modern India.”
The elegance of the store gives a beautiful stage to the designers’ signature silhouettes and immaculately structured occasion wear for men.
