Soneva Fushi reveals new Water Retreats in the Maldives

Surrounded by ocean waters, these overwater villas are the largest in the world

Soneva Fushi Overwater Villas

September 4, 2020: Soneva Fushi, Maldives has designed and unveiled eight new luxurious water retreats. Juxtaposed against the breathtaking blue ocean, these overwater villas come in 1 and 2 bedroom.

The 1 Bedroom Water Retreats (6,286 sq ft.) and 2 Bedroom Water Retreats (9,224 sq ft.) are the largest one- and two-bedroom overwater villas in the world. These villas are located near the Dolphin Beach and can be reached by a jetty, ensuring complete privacy for guests. Suitable for all ages, the water retreats boast spacious interiors with decks and rooms that can be easily sealed off.

The highlight is the water slide present in all the villas, adding an element of fun to the isolated retreat. Other interesting features are the pool suspended over the ocean in front of the pool deck, catamaran nets where guests can sit above the waves and curved steps from the pool deck that lead directly into the ocean water below. The retractable roof in the master bedroom allows guests to sleep under starlit skies.

Both villa types feature an expansive upper level with a dining sala, as well as Soneva’s signature outdoor bathroom with direct access to the sea. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the spacious dining and living areas with natural light. Additional amenities include fully-stocked minibar and pantry, and signature en-suite bathroom.

These retreats are different from the iconic ones in Soneva Jani. Instead of the whitewashed interiors, the decor is designed in oceanic hues of light greens, blues and soft beige, reflecting the rustic castaway style that Soneva Fushi is known for. Continuing the resort’s idea of sustainable luxury, they have been carefully designed using sustainable wood panels, recycled Styrofoam for walls that keeps the rooms cooler and provides soundproofing. The water retreats are raised above the ocean so that ocean waves don’t break against the underside.

“When we had to add more villas, we didn’t want to touch the beach, as we believe it should be for our guests and the turtles that visit our shores. So, we built over the ocean. We hired all the right people to come and assess the proposed location, ensuring there would not be any live coral in the area,” said Eva Malmstrom Shivdasani, Soneva’s Creative Director and Conscience.
