February 27, 2017: Indian designer duo, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, recently presented a fashion show which was a powerful expression of style and substance, while passing on a social message.
The evening showcased a sumptuous collection of couture, titled The Golden Door, on an exclusively designed set, in tandem with many Indian celebrities walking the ramp for the much loved designers. It also sent out a message designed to open dialogues that create awareness and impact action and empowerment via fundraising.
The Golden Door offers a range of multiple moods and emotions, with the collection fuelled by diverse influences, from jewellery and architecture and nature. The ‘Enchanted Forests’ range is defined by a palette of greys and black emblazoned with multi-coloured silk thread embroidery. Skirts, long jackets and capes create the magic.
For ‘Architecture’, organza skirts with multicoloured appliqué embroidery are teamed with wrap tops, ruffle shirts and jackets, packing a dramatic punch. Taking inspiration from ‘Sheesh Mahal’, a Palace of Mirrors, this range of sherwanis, anarkalis and ghagras in silks and georgettes are embroidered in gold, silver and coloured abla mirror work.
The art of Minakari finds expression in couture. This highly detailed range features intricate embroidery in gold zari, sequins and resham. Ghagras and shararas pay homage to bejewelled splendour. Taking a floral approach too, a select range personifies a burst of joy where pastels and whites are embroidered with the brightest floral motifs as mirror accents provide the bling. The ‘Heavenly Constellation’ range combines solids, sequins and Chikankari to create divine celestial couture.
Walking the ramp was actor Amitabh Bachchan, who spontaneously donated INR 11 lakh to CPAA, while young Bollywood heartthrobs, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, grooved for the audience on the stage. The designers’ friends, Sussanne Khan and Sonali Bendre were also seen supporting the cause by walking the ramp to raise awareness.
