Arami Chicago hosts Japanese Whisky Tasting

Arami chicago, japanese fine dining

September 3, 2015: A rising star of spirits, Suntory Distillery, will be in the spotlight at Arami's Japanese Whisky Tasting event on Wednesday, September 9. Starting at 6:30 p.m., a brand representative from Japan's Suntory distillery will lead participants through a variety of whiskies (Hibiki 12; Yamazaki 12; Hakushu 12), paired with a three-course menu by Chefs de Cuisine Ajay Popli and Nelson Vinansaca.

The history of Japanese whisky is the history of Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory. In 1923, Shinjiro Torii envisioned a whisky filled with the essence of Japanese nature and handcrafted by artisans through a patient process of enhancing the work of nature. He dreamt of creating subtle, refined, yet complex whisky that would suit the delicate palate of the Japanese and enhance their dining experience. Inspired by traditional Scottish whisky, Torii envisioned a Japanese approach by choosing a terrain and climate completely different from those of Scotland. Torii chose the region of Yamazaki, Kyoto as the birthplace of Japanese whisky.
