June 29, 2017: In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first precious metal Royal Oak, Audemars Piguet has released a new series of yellow-gold Royal Oak Extra-Thin watches.
The original Royal Oak was first introduced in 1972 in stainless steel, then reintroduced in 1977 when the yellow gold 39 mm Royal Oak made an appearance. The special-edition sports watch is water resistant to 50 mm, equipped with an 18-carat yellow gold case and is available with two dials. The classic blue features a lighter shade, while the vintage-inspired champagne blends with the yellow gold creating a monochromatic affect. In addition, the timepiece has an ultra- thin self-winding Manufacture caliber 2121, Blue dial with “Petite Tapisserie” pattern, yellow gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating.
