One of the most popular and prestigious Formula One races in the world, the annual Monaco Grand Prix, is set to return to the streets of Monte Carlo on the 29th of May.
Every year, the Monaco Grand Prix turns everyone's attention to the Principality of Monaco, bringing together a host of spectators for a sporting event they will never forget.
From sitting on the deck of your Monaco yacht charter watching drivers test their skills to enjoying Monaco's famed after-parties, here are some tips to make the most of your yacht charter visit to Monaco during the Formula One Grand Prix.
Walk around the track
Monaco is arguably F1's most famous track, weaving between pavements, buildings, a swimming pool complex and the Mediterranean Sea. With the Monaco Grand Prix schedule changing in 2022, make sure to do a two-mile track walk on Thursday for prime viewings of the first two Formula 1 practice sessions. Depending on how much of the scenery you want to soak up and how many times you stop for photo opportunities, the walk should take up to two hours. The track passes the Monte Carlo Casino, the famous hairpin turn in front of the Fairmont Hotel, and the bottom half of the circuit hugs the coast with views of yacht-studded Port Hercule.
After a day of exploring on dry land, soak up the electric atmosphere of the race with a cocktail in hand and watch the racing drivers pass by as you sit aboard your Monaco yacht charter.
Visit Prince Rainier III's car collection
For the motorsport fans who believe that today's modern cars are a far cry from the cars of yesteryear, make sure to visit Prince Rainier III's vintage car collection during your Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter. At the end of the 1950s, car enthusiast Prince Rainier III began collecting old cars. His collection gradually grew over the years as he acquired more models, and the garage at the Prince's Palace soon became too small to house his collection of stunning sporty cars.
Open to the public since 1993, his extensive and impressive collection is housed in its own museum, located on the Terrasses de Fontvieille. The collection features more than 100 cars, including Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis and Alfa Romeos from the 50s and 60s, experimental race cars from the 1920s, and a strong collection of technical F1 racing cars. The museum also has cars that have been used in the iconic Monte Carlo Rally and the F1 Monaco Grand Prix.
Before heading back to your Monaco yacht charter, head to the Princess Grace Rose Garden, where you can admire more than 4,000 rose plants from 150 different species and sit amongst the specular sculptures and fountains with a picnic.
Party at the Amber Lounge
A large part of the Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter experience is letting your hair down at one of the race after parties, and it doesn't get much better than the Amber Lounge in the Grimaldi Forum. Over the race weekend, the Amber Lounge plays host to wildly lavish parties, including Friday U*NITE, which includes pre-show cocktails, the Monaco Fashion Show, charity auctions and much more.
The Formula 1 Grand Prix after party follows on Saturday and Sunday when F1 drivers and teams celebrate the most coveted race in the world. Drivers such as Jenson Button have been known to party here well into Monday morning.
Make sure to spend the day-after cooling off in the Azure waters with your yacht's water toys and enjoy much-needed downtime on your Monaco yacht charter.
Visit the Casino de Monte-Carlo
No Monaco yacht charter would be complete without a trip to the famed Casino de Monte-Carlo. Built in 1863, the building consists of the famous casino, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and the office of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. If you are looking for a night of glamour during your yacht charter, pack a tux or a ballgown and explore the magnificent grand rooms, which feature in two James Bond films and Ocean's Twelve.
The casino is a superb location on the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit, with turn 4 overlooking the Casino Square. If you fancy watching the race on dry land, head to grandstand B for the ideal place to watch the race with a superb backdrop.
If you are seeking a luxury yacht charter in the Mediterranean during the Monaco Grand Prix, contact your chosen yacht broker, who will be happy to assist you with your yachting requirements.
