BMW X5 – Being Bullish!

The new BMW X5 is one of the best from the car manufacturer. That’s not all! BMW is determined to take back its number one position in the Indian market with a series of changes.

BMW recently assumed the number two position as Mercedes-Benz snatched the number one spot from them in Indian luxury car market. Suddenly there is a flurry of activity within BMW India. Dr Andreas Schaaf is the new President of BMW India. They are expanding their dealer network with 22 dealerships in four cities. They are increasing the production capacity of their Chennai plant. A massive dealership facility, Bird Automotive, has been launched in Gurgaon, India.

The competition between the two largest share-takers in the Indian luxury car market has given us a new car from the BMW stable – BMW X5. Dr Schaaf cautiously addressed his first press conference to the Indian media while introducing the new X5. His nervousness is understandable – the Indian media is certainly ‘volatile’.

BMW X5
Dr. Schaaf said, “The new BMW X5 combines more than ever before the fascinating driving experience offered by a BMW X model with outstanding efficiency. Its expressive design, innovative features and its premium character render the new BMW X5 the ultimate ambassador of its segment in every sense of the word. We are confident that the trend-setting qualities of the new BMW X5 will win admiration amongst individuals who do not negotiate on luxury and performance whether on or off-road.”

At the first look, BMW X5 has straight silhouettes which give it an extremely commanding, ‘no-nonsense’ (if you know what I mean) shape and feel. The SUV has some typical X model features which have been re-designed to provide a new look. The newly interpreted design elements of the X5 include the structure of the front apron, the position of the standard fog lamps, and the redesigned rear apron adopting the structure of the front end.

With its distinctively contoured bonnet, large-sized BMW kidney grille and dual round headlights slightly cut off at the top, BMW X5 boasts a strikingly expressive front end that symbolises power and presence. The L-shaped, re-designed taillights, reflect the brand-typical nighttime design of the rear end. The interior of the new BMW X5 is characterised by a generous amount of space and a modern, sophisticated design. In addition to the high seating position, BMW X5 can accommodate up to seven persons with the optional third-row seats.

Engine power
All versions of the new BMW X5 include brake energy regeneration. To explain it in easier terms: as soon as the driver stops accelerating, the released kinetic energy is transformed by brake energy regeneration into electrical energy that can be stored. So the battery is charged ‘free of charge’. The battery then needs less power input when the vehicle starts up again, which frees up the engine and reduces consumption. The top-of-the-range model BMW X5 xDrive50i accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 5.5 seconds. The BMW X5 xDrive30d accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 7.6 seconds. All versions of the new BMW X5 are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The standard equipment of the new BMW X5 also includes the speed-dependent Servotronic steering assistance system.

BMW X5 also comes with Runflat tyres which features a Runflat indicator. It lets the driver know whenever a tyre is experiencing a significant loss of pressure. Due to their special structure, Run Flat tyres do not collapse when deflated. Even a sudden loss of pressure at high speed does not affect the vehicle’s stability. It is therefore possible to continue driving in spite of a pressure loss or even if the tyres are completely depressurized. However, the car manufacturer recommends that in such a case, the speed should be kept at a maximum of 80 km per hour. So now you don’t need to be stranded with a deflated tyre anywhere.

Colour couture
BMW X5 is available in non-metallic Alpine White colour and in metallic colours like Black Sapphire, Space Grey, Titanium Silver and Platinum Bronze. In addition, Deep Sea Blue, Platinum Grey and Sparkling Bronze are new colours in the range of metallic colours available for BMW X5.

Nevada leather is the standard upholstery for the SUV and is available in Beige, Black, Oyster, Cinnamon Brown and Tobacco colours. Perforated Beige and Perforated Black is available with the Luxury Package. Interior trims available include Fine-wood trim Burl Walnut, Fine-wood trim Bamboo Grain Dark and Fine-wood trim Poplar Grain Light.

Obviously, it’s best to actually go and see the car yourself to decode all the jargon given above, and to see the above colour options yourself at BMW dealerships. But we assure you that you will look damn powerful at the helm of this extremely masculine SUV!
