Bottega Veneta explores the concept of ‘ease’ for its Spring Summer 2011 collection

Bottega Veneta’s Spring-Summer collection is characterized by ease, informality and unobtrusive sophistication. The simple yet smart collection is very refreshing! Tomas Maier, Creative Director of Bottega Veneta, said, “We began designing this collection by thinking about the idea of ease. What does a woman want to wear every day? Can something be both casual and ultra-sophisticated? It’s a different way of dressing, one in which the most remarkable details are often the least obvious.”

The colour palette runs from light to dark with hues of milk and cream, hay, oak, shades of titanium, and blue-black. Shapes are casual, loose and roomy, the silhouette narrowing with movement to reflect the line and motion of the body. As per the theme, even the materials chosen are airy and light. They range from suede, leather, cotton, and linen to jersey, viscose, silk, metal and polyester.

Handbags are also understated and chic. Informal-cross-body bags, shoulder bags, and top-handled bags are made of leather, canvas, and unconventional pairings of wovens and skins. The shapes are imprecise but finished with craftsmanship. Shoes offer opposing attractions: flat sandals have a bold presence while skinny heels have a nude foot and a vanishing quality.

The jewellery showcased is exquisite with each piece a marvel of technique and tradition. The most dramatic elements are filigree and cameos hand-carved in lava stone by craftsmen from the vicinity of Naples, where the art of cameo-carving was first practiced by the ancient Romans. These lava stone cameos are set in blackened sterling silver.
