Breguet launches the Type XXI 3815 chronograph in titanium

This aviation-inspired watch takes cues from the brand’s illustrious history

Breguet Type XXI chronograph

June 23, 2021: Although the House of Breguet is best recognized for its huge impact on watchmaking and classic collections, the name Breguet is also linked to aviation. The House of Breguet gained a reputation for itself with the Type XX aircraft chronographs, which were created by Louis Charles Breguet, Abraham-Louis Breguet's great-great-grandson. Breguet now adds to its illustrious collection with the Type XXI 3815 chronograph, a new, particularly sporty and contemporary model.

The Type XXI 3815 chronograph debuted this year as the modern equivalent to the previous vintage-style model, the Type XXI 3817 of 2016. The new model has a 42-millimeter titanium case, which is notable for its anti-corrosive characteristics as well as its light weight. This new watch is athletic in appearance and functions, with a delicately fluted caseband that makes it simple to hold. It also has a 100-meter water resistance, a screw-down crown, and a finish that alternates polished and satin-finished surfaces.

The modifications don't end here. The Type XXI 3815 chronograph features a deep black dial with vibrant hues that emphasize the watch's current style and sports personality. This new dial is equipped with luminescent green or orange numerals, markers, and hands. It also has a display with only two counters, with a 24-hour indicator and tiny seconds at 3 and 9 o'clock, respectively. The chronograph's minutes totaliser, as well as the seconds totaliser, are both in the center.

The mechanical self-winding movement, which is an important part of this collection, has a flyback function and integrates the newest Breguet technology, such as the silicon escapement and balance spring. The sapphire caseback displays all of the movement's intricacies, including a gold rotor with a special finish for this edition. Featuring a calfskin-leather strap with stitching that echoes the color of the markers and hands on the dial, rounded off with a new triple folding buckle for comfort and security on the wrist, the Type XXI 3815 chronograph is produced in a limited edition of 250 pieces per color.
