Indian-born and London-based Anish Kapoor has always been termed as a sculptor-cum-magician. His works usually consist of blazingly reflective metal surfaces or plush interiors. His pieces enclose multiple visual thrills and mysteries. One such fantastic piece of work is the special B.zero1 ring he has created for Bvlgari.
The iconic B.zero1 ring has an illustrious history behind it. It made its worldwide debut at the start of the new millennium and immediately garnered an extraordinary number of fans. The unique and playful B.zero1 adorns more than 1,400,000 hands since its introduction.
Its spiral design is a metaphor of transition from beginning to end and the coexistence of past and future. Its name, considered cryptic by many, is simply the B of Bvlgari combined with ‘01’, the universal sign of ‘beginning’. B.zero1 harmoniously combines two classic Bulgari icons: Tubogas, the beloved Bvlgari collection from the early ‘70s, and the famous ‘Bvlgari Bvlgari’ double logo.
The B.zero1 line has undergone an interesting evolution over the years. The original gold rings were embellished by diamonds and other gems which were later simplified to create bracelets, pendants, earrings, wristwatches and even several lines of handbags.
On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, Bvlgari restyled B.zero1 using new combinations and innovative materials, and thus presenting 15 new variants. A significant innovation in the 2010 collection is the combination of pink gold and ceramic. Two external rings with the traditional ‘Bvlgari Bvlgari’ logo in pink gold are contrasted with the spiral rings in white or black ceramic.
Kapoor has used steel in his version to give the ring his personal touch. It is a singular work of art considering that steel has been Kapoor’s inspiration for many sculptures and works of art.
The new B.zero1 collection, which also includes earrings, bracelets and pendants, is available in all Bulgari shops starting in June 2010.
