Trends may come and go, but Christian Louboutin‘s creations are forever. Once again, Mr. Louboutin makes a statement with the release of a new collection. Following eight successful limited editions of a tote bag that celebrate the craftsmanship of various regions globally, including Manilacaba and Africaba, this year the brand introduced the BREIZCABA.
This intricately decorated canvas and felt bag paid homage to the rich heritage of a place that Louboutin has always found “both inspiring and touching.” Located between Paris and the coast, the bag draws inspiration from Brittany, France.
Along with its rich history and culture, the place has its own Celtic-related language, where ‘Breizh,’ the inspiration for the bag’s name, translates to ‘Bretagne’, or Brittany. Each edition holds personal significance for Mr. Louboutin.
This bag offers a modern touch on the classic tote, incorporating several signature elements of the brand. The BREIZCABA is available in two sizes and two distinct colorways. The iconic studs, CL logo, and the renowned ‘Loubi In The Sky’ motif have been elegantly reimagined to pay tribute to the rich heritage, traditional craftsmanship, and artisans of Brittany.
Partially handcrafted at the historic Le Minor atelier in Pont-l’Abbé, Brittany, these bags utilize precious materials and ancestral techniques.
“These are all among traditional elements that I have reimagined for this bag, which celebrates a place very dear to my family,” Mr. Louboutin said of the deep connection he feels towards Brittany.
The designer fondly recalled the summers of his childhood spent in Brittany in official statement. He was inspired by how the region is steeped in myths and legends cherished by its people. The BREIZCABA bag is a tribute to this unique heritage, showcasing many of Brittany’s traditional symbols and crafts.
Take the Triskelion, for example. This ancient motif, representing the journey of life with its triplicate pattern, has been beautifully reinterpreted as the bag’s lining. Mr. Louboutin’s love for traditional Breton suits, adorned with the folkloric embroidery techniques of Pontivy, also inspired the intricate exterior designs of the BREIZCABA.
The BREIZCABA LARGE is a spacious tote, while the BREIZCABA MINI offers a more compact option. Both styles come in black-and-white or vibrant color versions, crafted from canvas, felt, and embroidery.
The BREIZCABA’s symbols are believed to bring luck to the wearer and are renowned for their craftsmanship. In tribute to this artistry, an ultra-limited-edition series of MINI bags will be released, featuring four exclusive colors with only ten of each available.
The bag collection also supports a good cause. A portion of the proceeds is donated to local charities. The benefits will also help restore the Georges Delasalle gardens on Batz Island, damaged by Storm Ciaran. This project is supported by the Conservatoire du Littoral, Haut-Leon Communauté, and La Fondation du Patrimoine.
