The luxury market in India has been valued at US$ 4.3 billion as per India Luxury Review 2007. The Indian economy has evoked a lot of interest globally given its statistics of some of the highest disposable incomes and increase in the number of high net-worth individuals. Changing consumer behaviour, relaxation in import duties and emergence of high-end shopping destinations are some of the other key reasons catalysing the growth of this market.
However, inspite of the immense potential of the Indian growth story, the luxury goods market in India poses certain challenges for international companies. There are issues inhibiting international trade such as restrictions on FDI, External Commercial Borrowings, licensing and tariff structure. Hence, it becomes imperative to address the challenges to facilitate trade and put India on a Global Map.
In order to address this and other key issues related to luxury retailing in India, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized its first Luxury Goods Forum in March 2008 in New Delhi. An MoU was also signed between CII and Altagamma (an Italian association of high-end luxury brands) to strengthen economic ties in the luxury goods sector as well as further cultural relationships between the two countries.
CII is pleased to bring its second edition of Luxury Goods Forum 2010, which will aim at fostering cross-country collaborations and propose the way forward to make the luxury retailing sector grow further and faster in India. The Luxury Goods Forum will be an endeavour to bring together luxury Retailers from across the globe with immense scope for cross-country investments, and partnerships.
CII is also pleased to inform that Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry would be addressing the forum. In addition, Altagamma, as the Institutional Partners for this forum, would also be bringing in a delegation of leading luxury retailers.
The forum which will see the release of a CII – AT Kearney White Paper on the ‘Indian Luxury Market’ will be in the format of keynotes, panel debates and analysis.
Some of the international speakers who have been invited include:
James Greenfield (Kenzo); Stefano Canali (Canali); Ravi Thakran (LVMH); John Hooks (Giorgio Armani); Michele Norsa (Salvatore Ferragamo); Micheal Burke (Fendi); Andrea Bonardi (La Perla); Santo Versace (Versace); Francesco Trapani (Bvlgari); Stefano Ferro (B&B Italia); Maria Cristina Buccellati (Gianmaria Buccellati); Piero Gandini (Flos); Dario Rinero (Foltrona Frau); Andrea Morante (Pomellato)
The high-powered event will conclude with a Fashion Extravaganza, being organised by the Gitanjali Group, followed by Networking Cocktails & Dinner. LuxuryFacts is an online media partner of the forum along with other media groups.
