Dior opens first store in Mumbai at Taj Mahal & Palace hotel

November 12, 2010: Christian Dior celebrated the opening of the first Dior boutique in Mumbai at the Taj Mahal Hotel over cocktails and dinner and an after party that Mumbai will remember for a very long time. Present on the occasion were Serge Brunschwig, COO, Christian Dior Couture and Kalyani Chawla, VP Marketing & Communications, Christian Dior Couture, India.

The interiors of the 1,300 sq metres boutique is based on Peter Marino’s design concept for Dior’s worldwide flagship store in Paris on Avenue Montaigne. The store houses the brand’s signature Ready to Wear, Bags, Shoes, Small Leather Goods, Fashion Jewellery, Dior Watches and the latest the Dior Phone as well.

The Dior Dinner was perfectly orchestrated and designed to create a unique Dior space. The recently renovated Taj was transformed with a giant chandelier with the Dior charms hanging from the historical Taj staircase glittering over grey carpeting – specially made to match the House Colour. Archival couture dresses in giant exhibit glass cases greeted the guests in the Ballroom with the lounge areas and the dance floor pumping up the tempo as the night progressed.

The surprise element was the India-connect which Mr Dior had with India. John Galliano is greatly inspired by India till today. The woven benarasi sari, designed by Mr Dior for the princess of Belgium and an embroidered kurta, which was made in India for Christian Dior, were displayed on this very special occasion from the archives of the House. Incidentally, the only fashion show that Mr Dior had outside Paris was in Mumbai in 1967 at the Taj Hotel.
