Dior’s newest exhibition showcases photographer Peter Lindbergh’s genius

The exhibition will also put forth unseen prints from an iconic 2018 Times Square photoshoot.

Dior is paying homage to its long-standing creative alliance with the late Peter Lindbergh in a stunning new exhibition. It will showcase over a hundred images spanning from 1988 to 2018, creating a visual narrative that explores the dialogue between Mr. Lindbergh’s artistry and Dior’s iconic silhouettes.

Each photograph captures the architecture, essence, and allure of the French brand’s designs, offering a fresh perspective on the fashion house’s legacy. For the first time, the public will have the opportunity to see the prints from Mr. Lindbergh’s extraordinary 2018 photo shoot, which brought Dior’s elegance to life on the bustling streets of New York. “While Haute couture is closely linked with an idea of perfection and the mastery of every detail, I wanted to transport 70 years of Dior creations to an unexpected place,” Mr. Lindbergh had said of the project.

In this memorable Times Square shoot, Mr. Lindbergh had captured top models adorned in over 80 archival Dior outfits. The exhibition offers a unique insight into the synergy between Mr. Lindbergh and Dior, highlighting a collaboration that redefined fashion imagery.

Renowned for his work on the iconic Pirelli calendar, the visionary photographer staged over 80 models adorned in the creations of fashion giants Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Each garment came to life, echoing the words of Dior’s founding couturier, who believed in capturing fashion “in the movement of life.”

The shoot seamlessly blended Dior’s timeless elegance with the pulse of the city. “This artistic journey weaves a fascinating dialsogue with the Dior silhouettes, offering a unique look at the expression of their architecture, essence and allure,” a statement from the brand read.

Mr. Lindbergh, who passed away in 2019, has works displayed in museums globally. His photographs, often of iconic actors such as Robert Pattinson, Kate Winslet, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Lawrence, frequently graced the covers of leading magazines. He was truly one of the greatest contemporary photographers of this era.

The exhibition is a must-see for anyone who appreciates the art of fashion and the power of visual storytelling. The showcase will be on view at La Galerie Dior from October 17, 2024, to May 4, 2025, in Paris.
