May 19, 2016: Starting May 11, 2016 the Foundation Louis Vuitton will present “Observatory of Light”, a temporary work by international artist Daniel Buren. It will be installed across the twelve ‘sails’, formed by 3,600 pieces of glass, which will be covered by an array of colored filters punctuated by alternating white and black stripes perpendicular to the ground. The thirteen selected colors will make colored forms appear and disappear, changing with the time of the day and the season.
Mr. Buren brings his “visual tool” (8.7 cm-wide alternating white and coloured vertical stripes) to life with this display. To mark this occasion, a catalogue – designed with the artist – will bring together a considerable body of works based around intersecting themes including color, transparency, light, translucency and projection, created between the 1970s and today.
In parallel with this event, BurenCirque will be setting up camp across the Foundation, for three original performances of a new show, “3 times a Hut”, on June 2, 3, and 4, 2016. BurenCirque is a multidisciplinary project in which new talents are invited to interact with features created by Mr Buren; features such as a new structure with three huts inspired by fairground architecture and huts that are bright by day and become translucent and mysterious lanterns at night. The performances run for one and a quarter hour.
Children aged 6 – 10 will be able to enjoy the artist’s work thanks to “The Light Trap”, a workshop that will enable them to experience the multiple coloured facets of Foundation Louis Vuitton, which will become a giant kaleidoscope. Tracking the projections and reflections during their discovery process, they will then have a chance to experiment with how the play of transparency, opacity and colour modifies one’s perception of space. The workshops will run from May 28 to August 28, 2016, every Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 – 5 pm.
