Design that draws from nature often feels the most familiar. This year, at Salone del Mobile in Milan, Dior introduced a set of three limited-edition glass vases by French designer Sam Baron. The pieces highlight functional design, traditional craftsmanship, and minimal detailing.
Each piece stands nearly a meter tall and is made using Italian mouth-blown glass techniques. Mr. Baron, who has worked with multiple luxury houses like Hennessy and Vista Alegre in the past, ensured that the shapes are smooth and rounded, with fine details that flow smoothly.
The design is inspired by nature, with flowers, branches, and leaves worked into the glass in transparent layers. These elements are meant to reflect the changes of seasons and the passing of time. This representation captures nature’s journey from its nascent state to a more structured form.
There’s also a subtle link to Dior’s past. The vase’s rounded shape is inspired by the design of the original Miss Dior perfume bottle from 1947. A soft striated texture across the glass adds a shimmer without being too bold, adding a gentle shimmer when light passes through, enhancing the visual appeal.
Only eight pieces of each design will be available, which was Monsieur Christian Dior’s lucky number. With or without botanicals, these vases attract with a quiet elegance. The vases aren’t flashy — they’re thoughtful, made with high artistry, and built to last.
