August 26, 2020: The latest Gucci Decor Collection titled ‘Souvenir From Rome’ is a reflection of Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s eclectic, romantic aesthetic. Integrating a number of motifs from the House’s repertoire, including blooms and creatures, the decor collection is a melange of colors, patterns and texts. Comprising furniture pieces, furnishings and decorative items, the collection is inspired by the Musei Capitolini of Rome which was also the venue for House’s Cruise 2020 collection.
Made 100% in Italy with extraordinary craftsmanship, the porcelain assortment includes an ashtray in a square and star design, a porcelain circular box, a candle holder with lid in porcelain, a folding metal table, a circular metal tray, wallpaper and a folding screen. The patterns are first hand-painted to get the opulent, marble effect and then put into production. Every piece, except the porcelain ashtray which has the GG script, has “Souvenir From Rome” inscribed on it. A celebration of Italian culture, the porcelain used in this collection is produced by renowned 18th century Florentine company, Richard Ginori.
Bringing contemporary sophistication, the collection has cloches, an antique and elegant piece to add to the dining table. Engraved with phrases like “Gucci Orgasmique” or “Maison de l’Amour”, they come in five different handles featuring animals and designs taken from the House archive: a hare, hand, snake, wolf and pomegranate. They can also be personalized with initials. An Asian tea cup with green Herbarium pattern, and a black “Maison de l’Amour” coffee pot are also a part of the table service collection.
Celebrating the Chinese New Year 2020 – the year of the rat, the famous Mickey Mouse makes an appearance on a porcelain mug with lid and a round porcelain box. Introducing a multitude of patterns from florals to rainbows, newer reinterpretations like a red and green apple formed by two interlocked G’s add to the pop-art element.
Blankets and cushions in Tartan prints in various colors as well as GG motif in diagonal stripes or in surrealist square shaped clouds in blue or green are also present. New wallpapers in different designs and iconic house patterns like a multicolour macro isometric GG print with a 70s look or a toile de Jouy pattern comprising an 18th-century pastoral landscape will add a bold statement to a modern space.
For an accent piece, the collection features hinged folding high and low screens. The low screen made in metal, has three panels, has a fabric characterized by a design featuring Una Woodruff’s artwork ‘Hua Fish’. Another metal-made low screen flaunts the G squared cloud pattern in velvet. The high screen is made in wood and has a black velvet covering. It has multicoloured rising stars pattern, the star and eye print embroidered at the top of the central panel, while the back is plain black, with the star and eye print again embroidered at the top of the central panel.
The seasonal collection reflects consistency even in its unusual patterns and combinations, ensuring seamless blending for those who wish to add these pieces to their previous collections. The Souvenir From Rome collection is available in Gucci flagship stores and boutiques. It is also available online at gucci.com and in select specialty stores.
