October 5, 2022: Bringing aboard 68 sets of twins for its latest show, Gucci makes an unforgettable spectacle! While the collection is reminiscent of the brand’s previous designs, what sets it apart (along with the setup of course) are the Gremlin toys.
Inspired by the 1980’s sci-fi monster Gizmo from the popular Gremlins franchise, cutesy handbags and skirts feature this face.
The collection is vibrant, embellished, with touches of vintage everywhere. Gowns and coats, frills and ruffles abound.
While the twins wore exactly the same clothes as they came out holding hands, creative director Alessandro Michele wanted to highlight cracks in duplicity as well through subtle references. He says, “It’s exactly the impossibility of the perfectly identical that nourishes the magic of twins. A genomic spell wanted to make such creatures precisely the same but, as a matter of fact, they live on impalpable discrepancies and misalignments. It’s the deception of similitude. The game of illusion of a cracked symmetry.”
Trailing on the thought, the same clothes emanate different qualities on seemingly identical bodies. “Fashion, after all, lives on serial multiplications that don’t hamper the most genuine expression of every possible individuality,” expands Mr. Michele in his official statement.
The show had everyone seeing double, literally!
