October 30, 2017: Global luxury brand, Hermès, has recently launched its latest Indian store in the newly opened The Chanakya, a bespoke luxury shopping destination in the coveted Lutyens’ Delhi area.
Spanning 207 sq mts, this new location offers visitors an exclusive voyage through each of Hermès’ distinguished métiers. Rich and lustrous materials such as textured stucco or metallic fabrics capture and diffuse the light of Hermès’ ‘Grecques’, made of moulded glass globes especially designed for the house in 1925. Slight variations in texture, colour, floor and wall surfaces gracefully distinguish the departments from one another. The overall colour palette varies from soothing greens to notes of creamy beige and soft grey.
Upon entering the store through a glistening double glass portal made of sage green lacquered metal, one sets foot on the iconic Hermès ex-libris floor, and first discovers Hermès’ colourful and vibrant silk department. Adjacent is the men’s space that expands all the way to the right of the store.
At the heart of the space, one finds the leather goods universe; where luggage, men’s and women’s handbags and equestrian accessories can be found. Moving further, one enters the women’s ready-to-wear department conceived with utmost comfort in mind. A private salon, furnished with soft pearl leather armchairs offers customers an intimate VIP room.
Furthermore, the jewellery and watch space is also designed as a private salon, with lush carpeted floors and grey lacquered wood. One finally discovers the home universe, on the opposite far right area, where shelving made of warm cherry wood showcases Hermès’ whimsical lifestyle creations.
Throughout the store, visitors will notice discreet touches of iridescent blue-green in certain fabrics, at the centre of the mosaic pattern or in metallic finishes. These opalescent details were inspired by peacock feathers, as the majestic bird is indigenous to India and stands as one of its national symbols.
