April 11, 2017: Employing varied plush, sturdy materials, Hermes has introduced its new Home Collection for 2017 for those who appreciate class and simplicity in their environs.
Leather is the primary link in HermeÌ€s’ new collections of objects and furniture for the home. Its use re-engages with the history of the saddler and harness-maker. Combined with light maple wood, lacquer, wicker, crystal or metal, leather rediscovers its importance in the House of Hermes.
It reveals more than it masks, it structures the object more than it decorates. It unburdens. It purifies. As a lid, it completes a box. As a strap, it underlines the transparency of a vase whose dimensions it shapes. As a bridle, it configures the disorientating geometry of the Groom atteleÌ, an indoor harness designed to hold, hang or hook. As sheathing, it offers all of its softness and warmth to the hands that push the Diligence, a serving trolley in wickerwork and wood.
The EÌquipages d’HermeÌ€s collection is based on a simple idea: each piece of furniture has its use. A stool doubles as a hiding place, an oak writing desk and small work table that can be adapted at will…playing with the harmonics of leather and wood, bringing in wickerwork and brass, these valet pieces, accessories to daily life, light-heartedly punctuate the living space and invites one to enjoy them in a variety of ways.
The Tie Set porcelain dinner set, with interlacing, squares and scatterings of H motifs, reinvents the everyday and makes any occasion fun. Grenat, menthe or mandarine: these three colour harmonies decorate plates, cups or bowls. Inspired by the micro-motifs of the house’s tie designer, Philippe Mouquet, this 20 design Tie Set mischievously plays with optics. Playful and relaxed, from a distance they seem to be coloured in a single hue, but get up close and this reveals a kinetic explosion. Combine them, mix them, mismatch them!
The Hermes furnishing fabrics and wallpapers rise to the challenge of abstraction. The Italian illustrator Gianpaolo Pagni applies stamp effects as a repetitive motif. The Milleraies, Tresses and Quatre Chaînes make the surface shimmer, while the Rubans lose themselves in a maze. This creates a host of variations that give a surprising relief to cottons and woolens. Some are worked as double-sided fabrics, allowing one to choose between the positive or negative side of the weave. A dialogue between sanguine and indigo, pourpre and laiton, or menthe and ardoise, these harmonics intended for chairs and curtains also appear on the wallpapers. Or they are paired with the black-and-white stripes of an unexpected Mille Jeux, a conquest in three dimensions.
The children’s wallpapers showcase cabins and cubes, stripes and little horses, playing with stamps and freehand drawings… Several childhood motifs are repeated ad infinitum on these friezes and wallpapers designed for little ones’ bedrooms.
