March 15, 2016: Auction house, H&H will sell a nugget of British royal history – Aston Martin’s 1954 Lagonda 3 Liter Drophead Coupe that Prince Phillip personally drove in the 1950s and ‘60s.
Rendered in a bespoke shade of Edinburgh green and a matching grey leather upholstery, the famed Lagonda was His Royal Highness’s preferred automobile to steer to the Cowdray Park for polo matches and to Cheam prep school to drop off Prince Charles. The luxurious four-seat convertible has also beaten some 50,000 miles around the Commonwealth.
Equipped with a custom-made extra vanity mirror for the Queen to adjust her hat as well as a radio telephone for the Duke of Edinburgh to place surprise calls to his wife at the Buckingham Palace, the royal Lagonda is estimated at around £350,000 ($501,270) – £450,000, a price tag purportedly three to four times higher than that of a common coupe.
The auction will take place on April 20, 2016 at IWM Duxford, Cambs.
