Christian Louboutin presents second capsule collection with Indian designer Sabyasachi
November 15, 2016: The Sabyasachi couture show in New Delhi recently was complemented by a striking collection of women’s and men’s shoes and bags, created in collaboration with French designer Christian Louboutin.
The designers’ second collaboration included a collection of shoes and bags, crafted using unique materials including cork, leather, and raffia, with adornments ranging from intricate embroidery to hardware in the form of beads and Louboutin’s signature spikes in varying sizes.
The ‘Louloudance’, a popular platform style with an ankle strap, was realized in a variation of regal colours and materials with a contrasting gold lamé piping. Combinations of Sweet Charity bows, embroidery or spikes adorned the 140mm heel, creating a powerful towering silhouette on the runway. Meanwhile, the ‘Gypsosandal’ walked the catwalk in custom metallic finishes for the show: platinum, gold and silver.
Classic styles such as the ‘Privé’ appeared in opulent black velvet with burgundy accents, while the gold and black version featured hallmark Sabyasachi embroidery. Another classic, ‘Brodiza’, appeared in special editions for the couture show; two satin options, as well as three embroidered leather variations.
‘Tuctopen’ and specially-made open toe booty ‘Tuctoboot, ’marked their presence strongly with baroque embroidery in black, gold and bright pink evoking a vintage look with a rebellious personality. ‘Fifi’ in a 140mm heel towered classically in a statement version with a potpourri of pearls and spikes on a mini glitter base.
The men’s shoes were adorned in Sabyasachi atelier’s signature embroidery on a variety of men’s slip-on loafers. From rich velvets with intricate embroidery motifs, to mustard with accents of spikes, the men’s collection offered styles for many occasions.
The capsule collection of bags, created for the collaboration for the first time, featured iconic styles such as the ‘Eloise’ and ‘Triloubi’ in decadent materials of nappa leather, suede and pony juxtaposed with popcorn spikes and accented with floral embroidery from the house of Sabyasachi. The ‘Paloma Clutch’ in suede pony artfully embroidered in a floral bird design and heightened with embellishment and hardware, complemented the couture pieces of the evening. ‘Sweety Charity’, referencing the Fall/Winter 2016 Tudor theme, was constructed in new materials with long fringes to add a play of movement.
