Grand Soleil yachtItalians are born sailors. They know how to steer their toy. And they surely know how to make them as well. Italy-based Cantiere del Pardo’s new Grand Soleil 46 combines a sleek look with superior performance. The brand’s typical low, flat coach-roof and stylish long black windows speak of style. A neat deck-layout makes her as easy to control by a solo-skipper as with a crew.

The moves
The sail yacht is a well done compromise between racing and cruising. It gives fantastic acceleration in light gusts and easy behaviour in rough seas. It has shown good sailing ability whether in a high level racing situation or a cruising trip. She has been built to conform to most of the race regulations.

Her balance and response makes her a true delight to helm. She is a good option if you are planning to cruise to the Lakshwadeep or Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Since the racing scene is also developing in India, it’s a good idea to test Indian waters with this yacht.

The looks
The deck includes racing ergonomics as well as cruising comfort, with some ‘maxi-yacht’ items, such as flush hatches and a wide toe-rail. She has a Botin & Carkeek hull design, spacious cockpit layout and modern interiors. The grey caulked deck is matched with light oak inside. The deck design by Attivo Creative has bulwarks running full length. The exclusive stern area has a sunbathing platform too.

Grand Soleil yachtThe interior by Mauro Sculli has the well-proven basic layout. The boat is divided in three cabins, an ample dinette and two heads. The owner’s cabin is at the forward with a large double berth. The head has a generously proportioned shower stall. The saloon features has a large dinette which can be converted to another double berth. The second head is aft of the nav station. Mirror-image quarter cabins also have double berths and large hanging lockers. Both, natural and artificial lighting, have been enhanced in the yacht.

Stunning look, impressive deck, wide cockpit, well designed accommodations and fine performance. If you want to have the boat that everyone looks at in a marina, then Grand Soleil 46 is your best bet. After all, it’s been awarded the European Yacht of the Year!
