Just in time for Geneva Watch Days, the Trinity Clock is the 13th collaboration between Swiss watch brand MB&F and Swiss premium clockmaker L’Epee 1839
August 27, 2020: MB&F has teamed up with L'Epée 1839 yet again to create a limited edition clock titled ‘Trinity’. The announcement of their 13th collaboration comes during the Geneva Watch Days, a multi-brand watch event held from August 26 to 29, 2020, where top Swiss brands showcase their newest creations in their showrooms.
The mechanical clock Trinity gets its name from its components: three insect-like legs, three insect-eye spheres and three movement levels comprising the creature’s mechanical body. Trinity clock is also the third in the trilogy of half animal-half robot creations called ‘Robocreatures’ which is a three-way collaboration between MB&F, L'Epée and designer Maximilian Maertens. Maertens first creation in the series T-Rex was inspired by dinosaurs of Jurassic Park and he has continued the same theme even for Trinity. The idea for the clock was inspired by the mosquito caught in amber which provides the DNA to genetically craft new dinosaurs. But for the main design, he decided to mimic a water strider insect with hydrophobic legs. “It feels much like a levitating insect walking over the water,” Mr. Maertens explains, “and this inspired me to create something that looks very delicate.”
The clock has an optical time display where two concentric rotating disks denote hours and minutes. The time on this unique dial can be read through the magnifying optical mineral glass spheres. The dials make one full rotation every 36 hours. With a power reserve of 8 days, the mechanical movement of the clock, designed and manufactured in-house by L'Epée 1839, is a beacon of fine Swiss clock-making. The water strider body of the clock is made of plated brass, optical mineral glass and fluorescent acrylic shields. It requires manual winding with a double-ended key to set the time and wind the movement.
Trinity has three limited editions of 50 pieces each in Neon Green, Neon Red and Neon Blue. It is available at their online shop at a retail price of CHF 22,500 + VAT.
