August 27, 2020: One of the biggest events of the international yachting season, the Maxi Yacht  Rolex Cup 2020 will be held from August 30, 2020 to September 4, 2020. The Swiss watchmaker has been an active partner to yachting since the 1950s while its partnership with the Maxi Rolex Cup, and its organisers Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), came into prominence in the 1980s.

The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2020 is an exciting and an elite regatta featuring first class competitors, challenging circumstances and also showcases impressive latest monohull yacht design and technology, all set against the picturesque backdrop of Porto Cervo in Italy. The fleet is categorized by its length and style. With victory being the ultimate focus, the determined Maxi owners engage in a fierce competition against equally adept crews in their class.

Rolex Testimonee and United States sailing legend Paul Cayard, who has competed in the event for 30 years, commented, “As sailors, we love coming to compete – the winds, the sea, the spectacular scenery around the Sardinian coast and the organizational capacity of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda make it second to none. The entirety of the package makes it a must do for the world’s top sailors. It is the best big-boat event on the circuit.”

Another former Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup competitor and Rolex Testimonee, the four time Olympic gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie, highlights the regatta’s natural fit with Rolex’s values. “Precision and excellence are core to the overall performance in sailing from a sporting perspective and this is no more so than at the Maxi Yacht Cup. There is a clear and common link with the ideals Rolex stands for.”

This year, given the pandemic, the fleet will be much smaller compared to its previous years. However, the consecutive five-day racing event is touted to be as enthralling and intense with powerful yachts sailing through the narrow passages and rocky outcrops.
