Indian designer Manish Arora awarded France’s highest distinction

Indian designer Manish AroraFebruary 18, 2016: India’s couture designer, Manish Arora, has received the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur – France’s highest distinction.

At a socialite-studded event in New Delhi, the French Ambassador, Francois Richier, presented the award in recognition of Mr Arora’s contribution to the world of fashion – notably, his renowned creations that combine Indian traditional crafts like lavish embroidery with Western silhouettes and cuts.

Bestowed on both French citizens and foreigners, the honor also celebrates the designer’s ties to the European country, where, from 2011 – 2012 – among other accomplishments – he served as creative director at the French house Paco Rabanne’s womenswear department.

Mr Arora now joins the ranks of such acclaimed personalities as Amitabh Bachchan, Pandit Ravi Shankar and JRD Tata, who have in the past been distinguished with the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur.
