Inspired by the brightest star in the galaxy – Shantnu & Nikhil present “Capella”

This season, the designer duo revisits the opulence of the Baroque era and its majestic artefacts – The Chandeliers.

October 18, 2022: For Indian designer duo Shantnu and Nikhil, Capella isn’t just a collection but an emotion meant to make the wearer feel like a star! Presented at Lakme Fashion Week, the disruptive, unique and individualistic couture collection is inspired by the Baroque era and majestic chandeliers – which also graced the runway with layers and layers of light dazzling up the room.

The designers said about the collection, “We’ve always been fascinated with history and the grandeur it holds. Our work has always denoted a passion for reviving nostalgia and retelling stories that are long forgotten. After over two decades of designing haute couture, it wasn’t surprising that we were looking for a new outlet: A Shantnu & Nikhil bride who redefines bridal couture through the prism of historical Abundance! Capella, named after the brightest star in the sky does exactly that!”

From translucent organza fabric to gold-spun suiting, more is more this season. Emboldened by an array of colours merging from blush-pink, going into pristine off-white, mint-gold – all are an ode to the magnificent interiors of a Baroque palace. All black gowns and menswear show a bold, glamourous side of modern weddingwear.

For the collection, all silhouettes are explored, stretched and elevated; and as a result, ample bridal inspiration abounds to match the extravagance of the early 17th century. To keep the authenticity of the art alive, the designers have used baroque lace embroidered in Dori work.

Actress Kriti Sanon ended the show with an embodiment of confidence, love, and feminine energy—wearing a mint-julep lehenga adorned with pristine regal stones and muted bullion thread. The prismatic crystals and chandelier-like chains are inspired by the palace of Versailles, giving a contemporary touch to an otherwise vintage design language.
