InterContinental Hotels Group opens fifth property in Australia

InterContinental Hotels Group opens fifth property in Australia
December 4, 2014: InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened InterContinental Sydney Double Bay, earmarked as one of the most exclusive properties in the country. The fifth InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property in Australia, InterContinental Sydney Double Bay is the only luxury hotel outside Sydney’s CBD.

Acquired and refurbished by Royal Hotels Australia, the multi-million dollar development of InterContinental Sydney Double Bay epitomises luxury and is pivotal to the resurgence of the esteemed Double Bay area.

The interior of the hotel is characterised by a blend of contemporary design and beautifully-reinstated features, including Italian white marble and grey-green marble fireplace. Each of the 140 guestrooms and suites are exquisitely furnished, with most opening out onto European fashioned balconies. The hotel’s original Grand Ballroom has been restored and has a capacity to host up to 495 guests cocktail-style. For smaller-scale events and conferences there are an additional six spaces, all of which feature state-of-the-art technology and design.

Situated in the tranquil suburb of Double Bay, just 13 kilometres from the airport and five kilometres from the CBD, there are magnificent views of the Bay, the village, the hotel’s provincial French courtyard and Sydney’s magnificent harbour. The best vista is enjoyed from the hotel’s new rooftop infinity pool, featuring a private bar and lounge area with cabanas.

The ultimate venue to enjoy a delicious cocktail, InterContinental Sydney Double Bay’s Stillery concept gin bar is anticipated to be one of the city’s hottest new haunts. Dining options include Stockroom – headed by Executive Chef, Julien Pouteau – a destination restaurant using seasonal, market-fresh produce prepared using techniques such as curing, smoking, pickling and cooking with a robata grill.

Guests can also enjoy culinary delights in the hotel’s exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and spacious French provincial courtyard, landscaped with original stone, a collection of evergreen trees and a manicured fragrant garden.

Additional dining options can be found on the ground floor retail precinct of the building, including Henley’s Wholefoods, contemporary Japanese offering, Sake Restaurant & Bar, and a restaurant and bar concept by local hospitality outfit, The Group. Also on this floor is 24-hour gym Snap Fitness with dedicated personal trainers and a wellness centre.
