It seems as if the creative designer himself dived beneath the waters of Lake Maggiore to conjure up a collection that evokes the mystical underwater world. Nicolas Ghesquière took the treasures of the watery surrounding of the event’s location and aesthetically translated them into the patterns and silhouettes of the fabric.
The collection epitomizes the ethereal combination of Louis Vuitton’s travel spirit and imaginative spectacle of water. For the unveiling of this magical collection, the maison picked the equally majestic Isola Bella, owned by Italy’s Borromeo family, on Lake Maggiore, Italy.
The idea was to stage an open-air event, where models walk through the Baroque gardens, embodying the spirit of creatures that inhabit the Lake Maggiore. But the lashing rain forced them to move the show indoors; however, that didn’t ruin the magic of the collection. At the event were an array of celebrities, including Emma Stone, Alicia Vikander and Cate Blanchett. A previous show had been arranged to produce the photographs for the guests.
The mesmerizing aquatic collection featured neoprene materials in abundance alongside mermaid-scale sequin skirts and naval jackets. Extensive printing on a pair of diving jackets evoked the Hokusai waves, while many looks featured sculptural sleeves and pleated fins protruding from underarms and necks.
The collection went beyond just the shades of the sea and employed various techniques to fashion the fabrics into ripples and scales. Majestic headgears and sleeves of the gowns evoked coral reefs. The Cruise collection was quite a merger of the simplistic The Little Mermaid and bolder Aquaman.
Speaking of Louis Vuitton’s magic, their most recent Pre-fall show in Seoul was also not to be missed, where the Seoulites and other visitors saw an entire bridge turned into a runway for the models.
