January 23, 2019: It was a show befitting a pop legend. Quite a theatric performance, Creative Director Virgil Abloh presented Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Fall Winter 2019 collection with live music, dancers and even an angry actor.
Inspired by, and an ode to, the legendary pop star Michael Jackson, the collection progressed from monochromes to two-tones to a multi-colour extravaganza, much like the musician’s career itself. The collection even had some accessories which are instantly reminiscent of Mr. Jackson – bling gloves and a hat.
Wool, denim, cotton, cashmere have all been put together to create a collection which is oversized yet tailored. Black and white are juxtaposed with neon accessories. Wiz cartoon jumper, hoodie and scarf-shirt bring a spot of crazy to the stage. Skate trainers adorn the feet mostly. It’s a collection to see and feel the immense power Mr. Jackson still holds over us. And Mr. Abloh has captured it quite beautifully.
