Major masterpieces to debut at Christie’s Hong Kong auction

The auction will offer major artworks by Yayoi Kusama, Jeff Koons and Rene Magritte.

Christie’s Hong Kong is set to offer an eclectic selection of groundbreaking works, featuring both world-renowned masters and aspiring artists. Bringing all the art collectors and enthusiasts at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Christie’s will orchestrate four auctions from May 25 to 28, 2023.

The 20th/21st Century Art Evening Sale, which will be held on May 28, will shed the spotlight on a major artwork by Yayoi Kusama, Pumpkin, which is estimated to achieve US$ 3,600,000 to 4,900,000, and other works by Andy Warhol, Zeng Fanzhi and Jean-Paul Riopelle. Highlight of the auction is a work by Jeff Koons, Sacred Heart (Magenta/Gold). This stainless steel sculpture is estimated to fetch up to US$ 9,000,000

On the same day, Post-Millennium Evening Sale will feature works by Liang Yuanwei, Nicolas Party, Michaela Yearwood-Dan and Jia Aili. An untitled acrylic work by Avery Singer is estimated to achieve up to US$ 2,600,000.

The 20th Century Art Day Sale on May 29 will showcase creations by Asian masters who bridge the gap between East and West, as well as their distinguished European contemporaries. The sale will explore the journey of modern art across time and geographical boundaries. A painting by Sanyu from the 1930s, still in pristine condition, will debut at the auction, alongside a collection of paintings by Zao Wou-Ki, including a work from the collection of the artist’s daughter, Madame Sin-May Zao.

Nicolas Party’s striking landscape, Rocks, along with a selection of Yayoi Kusama’s works across various mediums and periods, including her one-of-a-kind and profound work, Fantasizing in the Smoke, will highlight the 21st Century Art Day Sale.
