Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna’s latest couture collection, ‘Nocturnum’, is a breathtaking ode to the celestial realm. Melding Indian contemporary design with cosmic inspiration, the collection explores the geometric patterns of meteors as they pierce the night sky, transforming into midnight blooms.
With silhouettes that echo the grandeur of a nocturnal court, Nocturnum focuses on everything celestial for a couture line specifically for men and women, where a star-centric design radiates from a central point, symbolizing the Earth’s connection with starlight and its cosmic power.
Geometric paths merge into floral blooms, blending geometric, botanical, and celestial elements into an otherworldly visual story. In a striking shift from their classic palette, a spectrum of golds is unveiled including a captivating mocha gold that echoes a star’s trail.
This chromatic evolution enriches their timeless aesthetic with nocturnal mystery. Craftsmanship shines through in three-dimensional embroidery, beadwork, and crystal embellishments, meticulously handcrafted to evoke celestial magic.
Fabrics are pivotal in realizing this vision. Sumptuous velvets in bespoke shades flow alongside lustrous silk satins and airy tulles, creating a dynamic play of shadow and light. These textures evoke the varied terrains of an imagined realm where matadors waltz with starlight in seamless unity.
One of the highlights is a tailored and embroidered sherwani showing understated luxury. A structured bodice paired with a fluid and flowing skirt like the night finds a balance in form and movement. Mermaid-style gowns shimmering with delicate beadwork are all the rage in the collection.
“Nocturnum is a collection of the night. We imagined what falling stars would look like if they streaked across the night sky and transformed into blooms before they met the surface of our planet. This is a collection about structure breathtaking down to emotion, birthing a collection that pushes the boundaries of haute couture. Our patterns draw from matadors, stars, and pixelated flowers, building kaleidoscopic botanicals that merge the past, present, and future,” the Indian designer duo said.
For menswear, the designer duo transforms formalwear with a Nocturnum twist. Going beyond the Indian sherwani, long-tailed jackets are paired with inventive cut-out designs, infusing masculine couture with elegance and charm. With its celestial-inspired designs and impeccable craftsmanship, this collection is a standout testament to the designers’ visionary flair.
