Nobu at One&Only Cape Town presents wining & dining events

Nobu at One&Only Cape Town presents its Wine & Dine Masterclass and MCC ’14 series

Nobu at One&Only Cape TownFebruary 4, 2014: Nobu Cape Town has announced an exclusive programme of exquisite dining events for 2014. Every alternate month, the restaurant will feature a fine Cap Classique producer and their sparkling wines, pairing them in an evening of fabulous bubbles and flavours in the Nobu Lounge. In the months in-between, some of the country’s most iconic wineries and winemakers will be conducting ‘Vertical Masterclass’ evenings, going back over several years, each wine paired with the very finest cuisine Nobu restaurant has to offer.

The Nobu Methode Cap Classiques Wine & Dine evenings commence on February 5 with one of the biggest names in South African sparkling wine. The von Arnims of Haute Cabrière maintain the French tradition of producing their Methode Cap Classiques under the founder’s name, in this case, Pierre Jourdan. On April 2, another family winery, the House of Krone, will be showcasing their range of bubbles from the cool inland region of Tulbagh. Boasting sophisticated and distinctive new packaging, the wines continue to be some of the finest MCC’s in the country.

On June 3, Pieter Ferreira of Graham Beck Wines, widely recognised as probably the best-known South African MCC’s, will be holding court in the Nobu lounge. His wines have been sipped by royalty and rock stars and the line-up will include the prestigious Cuvée Clive. On August 6, Nobu will welcome another family-owned winery when Jeff Grier of Villiera Wines showcases his range. His MCC’s range from the delightfully light Starlight up to the prestige cuvée of Monro, regularly-decorated and applauded as a South African classic. The final MCC host of the Nobu Wine & Dine events in the Nobu Lounge will be Boschendal Wine Estate on October 1. This Franschhoek producer has been consistently lauded both in local and overseas competitions and the wines are the epitome of style, elegance and class.

Working alongside the Nobu Lounge with their MCC dinners, Nobu restaurant has also crafted Vertical Masterclasses with some of the finest practitioners of South African winemaking. The series will commence on March 5 with South Africa’s signature grape, Chenin Blanc, with one of the country’s top Chenin-experts, Johan Joubert of Kleine Zalze Wines. On May 21, Miles Mossop from Tokara Wines will be taking the floor to show off his range of award-winning Sauvignon Blancs.

One of the highlights of the year will be the Cape’s foremost Bordeaux blend producers, De Toren Private Cellar, who will be the host in the restaurant on July 2. On September 3, the evening will be structured around Pinot Noir, which will be showcased by Hamilton Russell Vineyards. Anthony Hamilton Russell and Hannes Storm have been defining and setting the bar for Pinot Noir in SA for the past 30 years.

In the final event of the year, Constantia Uitsig Wine Estate will focus on Chardonnay as the partner for Nobu’s elegant dishes on November 5. Constantia Uitsig’s range of wines includes both wooded and unwooded versions, offering plenty of scope for winemaker and chef to concoct exciting and innovative pairings.

The Nobu Lounge MCC Evenings are priced at R495 per person and include a delicious pairing of bubblies with Nobu’s world-famous menu while the unique Nobu Vertical Masterclass events are priced at R450 per person (except the De Toren Private Cellar evening which is priced at R495 per person) and includes a memorable pairing of Asian-style dishes with wines.
