July 7, 2021: In tune with his characteristic quirkiness and love for vivace, Paul Smith’s Spring Summer 2022 collection moves from warm orange morning colors to dazzling sky blues and midnight blacks, and a natural color palette that leads the shift from dawn to dusk.
Tuscan terracotta, putty, and red clay are earth tones that further tone the collection in natural hues, while vibrant red and acid yellow accentuate the palette.
In a sequence of photo prints, the four elements of earth, wind, water, and fire are portrayed through natural textures and bold color splashes. Sunflowers, as a symbol of spring, pop up as a recurring printed motif, an intarsia knit pattern and textural embroidery on essential pieces like a rust or white loose linen suit.
Fabrics have been chosen for their light weight and how they flow around the space, accentuating the main theme of lightness. Transparent nylons have been used to make complete garments or to add tactile layers to linen designs.
Other important outdoor apparel pieces, such as storm cuffs, have been integrated and enhanced, with detailed design influenced by boat sails, notably a zigzag stitch pattern. Check fabrics add charm to Paul Smith's tailoring background, which is a constant theme throughout the Paul Smith collection.
Paul Smith's great eye for stripes is paired with Porter's unparalleled luggage, which varies from little shoulder bags to holiday duffel bags, for this first collaboration for Spring-Summer 2022.
Footwear is developed for both land and sea adventures, with Gore-Tex trainers providing weather-proof comfort for land explorations and deck shoes with suede uppers alluding at sea voyages.
