January 7, 2016: Luxury watchmaker and jeweler, Piaget, has introduces this year’s addition to the “Art & Excellence” collection.
To celebrate and honor the Chinese New Year, Piaget beautifully represents the year of the monkey with a playful and magnificent design. The face of the watch showcases the Grand Feu cloisonné enameling tradition. Master enameller Anita Porchet has worked with Piaget to bring each Chinese zodiac sign to life since it’s creation in 2012. By partitioning the enamel in a method using cloisons, the artwork achieves an enhanced sophistication, giving the monkey a subtle glistening coat of fur as the monkey holds a peach – a symbol of immortality.
The artisan initially forms the decorative design with strips of gold. Next, the pigments are crushed and mixed by hand before colors are carefully applied to the face of the watch with a fine brush. Honoring the tradition of grand feu enamels, the firing of this limited edition timepiece in a kiln at over 800°C ensures the longevity as well as a truly marvelous glow. The clarity of this masterpiece’s enamel work is enriched by Piaget’s gem-setting expertise with the 18-carat white gold case set with 78 brilliant-cut diamonds. The delicate dial conceals a Piaget 430P hand-wound mechanical manufacture movement.
