April 24, 2013: New York-based brand Rachel Roy is now available in India at Kitsch stores in New Delhi and Mumbai.
Starting with the Spring Summer 2013 collection, the designs have an exuberant and vibrant feel to them. The collection is inspired by abstract artist and colorist, Sonia Delaunay’s vibrant paintings contrasted against the mod subculture of 1960’s London. Youthful silhouettes paired with geometric shapes, mixing and matching of bright pop colors and laser cut embellishments embody Delaunay’s aesthetic while celebrating a strong, confident woman.
It juxtaposes colours, fabrics and textures to create an impression of rhythm and movement. The collection has a fresh and youthful feel. Silhouettes include clean A line strapless dresses with peplum and power mesh. Bandeaux blouses and dresses with flat and clean peplum detail compose an evolution of the peplum, trying to take the peplum to a new direction. Structured sophisticated menswear inspired oxford blouses and blazers with added boning emphasize Rachel’s consistent play on masculine and feminine balance. Scalloped edge hem and embellished skirts and knee length coats in a light yellow macramé lace are a delight.
Fabrics used define comfort. Double face crepes are paired with perforated lamb leather, macramé lace, power mesh, metallic lace wool and laser cut embellishments. Tanks and shorts in a variety of vibrant silk charmeuse, satin and jacquard prints is an ode to Delauney’s notion of “color as the skin of the world”.
Colours like regal and marina blue, begonia and tamarind, citrus, ice lime, coral, capri blue and sea glass shades with nude and navy touches bring brightness to this collection.
