Smoke Lab sparks a stir with its Indian inspired gin

Only 2,000 units of this rare, limited-edition gem exist globally.

This festive season is even more interesting with Smoke Lab’s new and fresh spirit, Mohulo, to indulge and to gift. This artisanal gin is distinguished by its use of a genuinely indigenous Indian ingredient, the Mahua flower, meticulously sourced from the lush landscapes of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Mohulo Gin by Smoke Lab India

In crafting the gin, the essential components consist of the base alcohol, often referred to as extra neutral alcohol (ENA) or extra fine alcohol, along with distilled water and botanicals. This mystical elixir is a fine fusion of 12 botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica plant, green cardamom, liquorice, pink peppercorn, bay leaf, orange blossom, orange peel, mahua, honey and Basmati rice.

What sets Mohulo apart is also its choice of Basmati Rice as the base, a departure from the more conventional use of wheat or barley grains. This choice was made cleverly to capture the authentic essence of India and its multifaceted flavors. The meticulous artistry behind Mohulo is overseen by Master Distiller Jamie Baxter, a revered figure in the world of distillation and gin.

The first bottle of the limited edition gin was auctioned at an exclusive brunch in Delhi. The collectible was secured for INR 2 lakhs by an avid collector from Korea. The proceeds from the auction will be used to uplift the Mahua tribal community from Madhya Pradesh.

With only 2,000 cases available globally, and 200 in India, this limited-edition masterpiece is priced at INR 5,000 in Mumbai and Delhi, and $60 internationally.
