Sotheby’s to auction the rare De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 diamond

Sotheby’s to auction the rare De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 diamond

De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 diamondMarch 14, 2016: At its Hong Kong Spring sale, Sotheby’s is to present the largest oval fancy vivid blue diamond to ever appear at an auction.

Weighting 10.10 carats and boasting the coveted Internally Flawless grade, De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 is the sole oval-shaped gem among the 12 rare diamonds – 11 blue and one colorless – that shape the famed De Beers Millennium Jewels collection, unveiled in 2000.

The magnificent jewel is only the second precious stone from the lavish ensemble to sparkle on the open market, following the 2010 Sotheby’s Hong Kong auction, which featured the “De Beers Millennium Jewel 11,” a 5.16-carat Internally Flawless pear-shaped diamond.

Prior to the Hong Kong Spring sale on April 5, the diamond – estimated to fetch around $30 – 35 million – will be on display for the public from April 1 – 4.  Before arriving in Hong Kong to be  snatched away at the auction, De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 will tour the world, with stops in New York, London (March 15), Geneva (March 16), Singapore and Taipei (March 19 – 20).
