Summer Festival at Swarovski Kristallwelten celebrates Indian culture

Summer Festival at Swarovski Kristallwelten celebrates Indian culture

August 1, 2017: For its inaugural Summer Festival, Swarovski Kristallwelten (Swarovski Crystal Worlds) will be transformed into a “Mela” – a gorgeously colorful Indian fair.

The brain-child of Cultural Director Carla Rumler, co-curated and designed by Indian fashion designer Manish Arora, this festival will involve a host of artists and designers originating from India.

With its new annual Summer Festival, Swarovski Crystal Worlds aims to offer multi-sensory experiences, based on different themes and cultures. So this year during the “Mela,” the spirit of India will fill the entire park and will feature art, Indian cuisine, selections from Indian and Bollywood movies and performances by the Indian dance group “The Yellow Stripe Dance Company”.

For two months, the festival will run from 8:30 to 22:00 every day. At every step, visitors will find something new– from themed installations and art objects, to dance shows and performances in the garden or interactive features such as a giant Indian board game. Existing art objects with an Indian connection are highlighted throughout the festival, such as the crystal Taj Mahal that is part of the FAMOS installation, or a replica of the black stallion “Chetak,” the favorite of an Indian Maharajah, who had a bridle fashioned for it which was decorated with precious stones.

The Mela also includes food stalls with Indian specialties, ranging from tea to exotic ice creations to savory treats. The menu at Daniels Kristallwelten Café & Restaurant will feature a special range of aromatic, spicy dishes for the festival.
