Tarun Tahiliani’s first menswear studio is dark, suave, Indian

A visual feast for the eyes, the Indian designer’s first Mumbai flagship menswear store, in the city’s Dubash House Ballard Estate, is a reflection of the brand’s “modern India” philosophy.

Tarun Tahiliani Menswear Studio

Luxury clothing brand Tarun Tahiliani has launched its first menswear studio in Mumbai’s Dubash House. While the ground floor of the building houses the women collection displaying luxury pret, jewellery and accessories, the menswear store spans across the fourth floor.

Designed by Mr. Tahiliani himself, the new boutique is awash in wooden panelling, and showcases stunning square mandala along with a signature “Jali” courtyard. The entire façade features hand embroidered insects, black mother of pearl flowers and other shapes, imbued with masculine colors and energy.

A magnificent antique Yali figure, which symbolizes as a guardian creature across cultures, is placed against the facade, which is the utmost representation of masculine energy. Upon entering, the expansive foyer with wooden floors and handmade Tarun Tahiliani carpets immerses the viewers in for a complete visual treat.

Just as elegant as the women collection, the men’s collection incorporates clean lines and rich fabrics such as tulle, satin, silk, georgettes, and tussar. In perfect synchrony with the masculine aura that the exterior exudes, the interior houses the brand’s Sheer Summer Occasion-wear.

Steeped in Indian legacy, this season’s collection has a fresh and dramatic twist to the traditional draping and sharp tailoring. Created in calm colors such as beige, ivory, ecru, soft pinks, iridescent hues and pastels on faded metallic tones, every design features the TT signature motifs that flow from one season to another in a timeless sensual style. The designer talks about his minimal and sustainable fashion philosophy, and shares, “As larger than life celebrations become a norm, fashion has become something of great lightness, with much higher quality and finesse. Overtly heavy garments that weigh down the wearer, are no longer fun. With this new collection, we encourage men to wear the finest materials, in forms that they can party in while always staying supremely stylish.”

The revered Indian designer is widely known for his designs that revel in Indian heritage with an entirely novel perspective, embracing both the past and present with an unwavering desire to create something out of the ordinary. Recently, at the FDCI Lakme Fashion Week, his modern interpretation of Indian drapes and silhouettes took a dramatic turn, pulling in viewers like a magnet.

Just in case you are wondering what’s Tasva: Tasva is a collaborative Indian menswear brand between Tarun Tahiliani and Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd. The new Tarun Tahiliani Menswear Studio, however, is owned by Tarun Tahiliani. Aditya Birla Fashion also holds a 33% stake in Tarun Tahiliani.
