October 10, 2018: British auction house, Fellows, announced that a gold ‘Rum’ watch containing a droplet of the world’s oldest rum will feature at its Watch Sale which takes place on October 30. The limited edition gentleman's 18ct rose gold ‘Rum’ wrist watch is estimated at £10,000 – £15,000 and is the second timepiece by Speake-Marin after the titanium Rum watch.
The watch contains a droplet on the 11 hour mark containing 1780 Harewood Rum, which was certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s oldest. It has a white dial with Roman numeral hour markers, as well as "Stand Fast The Holy Ghost" engraved. Wealth Solutions acquired bottles of the prestigious rum in 2011 after they had been found in an old cellar in the Harewood Estate near Leeds. They began the Rum watch project with Speake-Marin and decided to produce 59 watches containing the droplets – 49 in titanium and only 10 in rose gold.
Michael Jagiela, Watch Specialist at Fellows Auctioneers, said: “After the success of the titanium Rum watch, we are delighted to offer an even rarer, 18ct rose gold example. This particular watch is limited to only 10 examples and we are certain that it will create plenty of excitement in the saleroom.
The watch is available for public viewing at London and Birmingham on the following timings – 23 October, 12pm – 7pm (London); 27 October, 11am – 4pm (Birmingham); 29 October, 10am – 4pm (Birmingham); and 30 October, 8.30am – 11am (Birmingham).
