Nothing can beat the feeling of soft fur caressing your skin or black leather making that evil, but smart impression. Fur and leather are two materials which can be moulded to clothe any mood and personality. And then we stumbled upon Eden Lun. A fur and leather couture house based in Spain, Eden Lun, was founded by Xavier Gali and Cris Roca in 1999. Their innovative design, excellent craftsmanship and focus on quality had us completely awed.
Eden Lun doesn’t work according to any fashion calendar. It creates 50-60 bespoke pieces a year. While some are custom-made for particular clients, rest are sold in their Barcelona store or in the various trunk shows they organize around the world. Gali says, “We develop new creations all year around. One of a kind. We don’t care if it is the right commercial moment to do it.”
The couture house uses quality minks, cashmeres, exotic leathers, silks, metallic, and embroidery to produce such rare pieces. They produce not only coats and jackets, but blankets, gloves, pet bags and handbags also. Each garment has a unique cut which, when worn, seems to be made exclusively for the wearer. They fall and drape over your body like second skin.
When we asked Gali why their brand wasn’t much popular in India despite having such fabulous creations he simply said, “To produce 50-60 pieces per year means that you can’t be recognised by people in India and many others countries as you are not producing thousands of products. Our ambassadors are our clients. It is a kind of viral marketing, mouth to ear.”
Along with innovative design, they have researched a lot on techniques too. “We worked with a variety of furs applying different techniques to finally reach the conclusion that the fur that fulfilled all characteristics is mink,” Gali says.
They attend international raw fur auctions enabling them to meticulously choose from the very best selection of skins, identifying those with the finest quality of hair and leather. Subsequently the skins are sent to specialist tanneries where, after complex processes, Eden Lun achieves the desired finish of leather. The application of well-researched techniques, combined with the finest quality of skins, produces the dream garment.
Eden Lun also takes sustainability and responsibility in its stride. They only work with natural materials like furs, leathers, cashmere, silk and cotton. All of them are renewable resources, durable, reusable, recyclable and biodegradable.
