May 6, 2019: Italian Fashion brand Gucci hosted a party to launch its new lipstick collections, the first debut from a new Gucci Makeup line, ideated under a contemporary manifesto of beauty by Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele.
Cloaked in richly textured décor that evokes the year it opened, in 1976, the event took place in the private Doubles Club in New York. This intriguing location fittingly customized to welcome Gucci’s guests and celebrate the new chapter of the Gucci Beauty story, starting with lipsticks.
Gucci’s three new lipstick collections are in diverse formulations: Rouge à Lèvres Satin with a satin finish, Rouge à Lèvres Voile with a sheer finish, and Baume à Lèvres, a lip balm with a translucent finish.
The campaign, which was shot by Martin Parr, stars Dani Miller, the lead singer of punk band Surfbort, whose music touches on politics, sexuality, mental health and social media, and models Mae Lapres, Achok Majak and Ellia Sophia Coggins. These contemporary faces attended the event together with Mr. Michele and the new Gucci Global Makeup Artist, Thomas de Kluyver.
Inside the club, with 58 shades to choose from, the guests tried the lipsticks on at vintage-inspired makeup stations, assisted by Mr. de Kluyvers’ team.
