February 15, 2021: Crafting new interpretations of Bursa – Indian designer JJ Valaya’s winter 2020 collection – the new collection is richer, with more magnificence shining through.
An ode to the culturally rich, elaborate Ottoman Empire, BURSA is an alluring tribute to Persian heritage. Mr. Valaya has long sought inspiration from the alluring alleys of Turkey for his collections. Keeping intact the inspiration points behind the former Bursa Collection, yet respecting the change of season, the collection plays with lighter silks and organzas in order to bring forth the requisite resplendence required for weddings and occasions that are being held in the new season.
While traditional colours like reds and its family are synonymous with Valaya, this collection also welcomes the changing season with open arms by celebrating soft summer shades and myriad hues. The collection utilises antiquated metals, gotta, silk threads and intricate gold embroidery for this new interpretation.
This collection showcases a diverse range of modern cuts and styles. One such example is the use of faux leather and velvet patches, beautifully appliqued onto silk, which bestows a modern element to intricate bygone work. The modern cut blouses have interesting necklines and puffed sleeves. The collection also uses tulle and organza to provide that light sheen for the summer months.
A fresh addition to this selection of lehengas, blouses, dupattas and sherwanis would be an assortment of embellished hair bands. However, the highlight of this collection is the EMROOZ (‘today’ in Persian) border which is a timeless bejeweled border carefully sewn into several pieces of the collection.
