Coming back to the brilliant rose gold packaged collection by MAC and Rihanna, their eye shadow quad titled Her Cocoa is brilliant for five reasons. Four powder shadows – pearly, pinkish beige; golden brown with a sparkle; glittery gold; and a shimmery, bronzed brown with gold glitter – compose the quad. The fifth reason why I love it? The name, of course. Passionate, feminine and sultry, exactly what any of us need as a ‘pick me up’ on one of those days. The quad, like I said, consists of shades with a leaning towards the cocoa brown family. Needless to say it works well with Indian skin tones while the gold adds that mysterious touch to this compilation.
The Bright Bronze Gold (lustre formula) seems to be a cool-toned, almost silver-based pale gold, which has shimmer and a good colour pay off, with a fine, almost glittery, finish. This makes it a great inner corner highlight and has been closely linked to MAC Retrospeck. The warm antique gold is a somewhat deep golden bronze that reflects more gold in the natural light. If you are looking for a permanent MAC shadow of this shade, the team suggests MAC Woodwinked. The Chocolate Bronze (lustre formula) is another beautiful deep and warm toned golden bronze that again has great levels of pigmentation and looks, well, simply marvellous.
Personally I’d have replaced the soft pink nude with a coal black to add depth to the quad because this shade doesn’t do too much for my wheatish, fair skin tone. I would rather not use that shade and simply play with the other three, which are so dynamic when they come together that they can be toned down or up, depending on the situation and, of course, your mood. The only drawback with the darker shades was that I did experience quite an amount of fallout, so keep a swab below your eyes to avoid filtering the rest of your face make up. These shades can be applied wet too, so get your brush wet and behold! You’ll get more pigmented shades that spell drama from beginning to end. A simple jet black eyeliner is all the finishing that this needs with the exception of a dark shaded mascara to make the eyes ‘pop’.
All in all, a good selection of colours that are smooth and blend-able, so all you really got to do is look pretty, internally and externally…
