MB&F recreates its HM3 Frog for an anniversary edition

The new Horological Machine N°3 ‘Frog X’ has paper thin domes, sapphire crystals and super luminova accents

MB&F Frog X 2020 watch

November 12, 2020: One of the first horological machine to be made by MB&F, HM3 Frog’s great precision, design, micro mechanics and unique three dimensional construction made it an iconic watch for collectors. Its globular eyes, battle axe rotor and glistening titanium skin was revolutionary.

HM3 Frog X makes its comeback with radiant raw sapphire crystal called Corundum, as the time domes. Machining and polishing each case of HM3 Frog X requires weeks of intensive and meticulous work, a number that would be multiplied greatly if not for MB&F’s 15 years of experience in boundary-pushing sapphire crystal design since 2005.

The watch engine, built by award-winning master watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht, is based on a Girard- Perregaux calibre, which has been literally turned upside down to allow for an uninterrupted view of the enlarged 22k gold and titanium winding rotor and the oscillations of the balance wheel.

The two 22K gold blades of the MB&F battle-axe rotor make what is called a “mystery” rotor because, in appearing to be symmetrically balanced, instead of having a visibly off-centred mass, they seem to defy the laws of physics.

The sapphire crystal case may be totally transparent, but the winding crown of Frog X hides a message… When it receives just the right amount of light, at just the right angle, it reflects a secret signature: the MB&F battle-axe.

HM3 Frog X is crafted in three limited editions of 10 pieces each, with matching rotor, gasket and Super-LumiNova in Purple, Blue or Turquoise.
