Pushing Away the Clouds

Defeating the tactics of monsoon, we recommend a makeup routine and products, which will soar up your spirits this damp season

Defeating the tactics of monsoon, we recommend a makeup routine and products, which will soar up your spirits this damp season

As pretty water droplets continue their incessant downpour, it’s essential that your makeup looks graceful, and yet matches the wet season. But it certainly doesn’t mean that the gloomy rains affect your mood or decision to play with bright colours. Just keep in mind that excessive foundation or non-waterproof makeup will run, and give you a look that, well, won’t be so pleasing.

First things first, let’s start with the base. Save the foundation for a wedding or a party because this season is all about subtle and fresh make up. Ditch your foundation for a BB or a CC cream to even out the skin tone and give you a ‘clean’ look. We swear by Bobbi Brown’s CC Cream that promises natural beauty and that is exactly what it delivers. The warm nude shade is quite a perfect match for my medium skin tone and a couple of drops does the trick. The application is easy and all I needed was to dab the product in circles with a brush, before it sank into the skin, giving me a warm glow. Absolutely non-sticky (even in this humid climate), it is perfect especially in the monsoons, as it won’t run or clog pores and result in a makeup disaster. A dream cream for skins, this colour corrector plus treatment hybrid takes a three-step approach to evening out the skin, while colour-correcting pigments instantly address sallowness and redness. In three shades to suit all skin tones, pair it with your favourite foundation or just let it make you beautiful by itself! It wore for the entire day without so much as fading or caking.

Next, keep it simple and minimalistic. My addition is a concealer to cover up my tired eyes. Being a fan of creamy concealers because of my dark circles (yes, it’s the media job and all that), I tested the creamy concealer kit by Bobbi Brown again in honey shade. With an emollient peach based concealer and a yellow based powder, it is said to help neutralise dark circles and brighten up the eye area. I applied the concealer with a concealer brush and then gently massaged it with my finger tip. The powder is actually a setting powder, which effortlessly ‘sets’ the concealer in place, giving a well rested look. That’s for the dark circles and saggy eyes.

We could call our entire look the ‘Bobbi Brown monsoon look’, because the finishing powder that I used next, and highly recommend, is the Brightening Finishing powder in Bronze glow. Lovely for just ‘brightening’ up your look and setting it in, this powder delivers a subtle glow if you know how to use the product correctly (and use the shimmer to your advantage). Part of their lovely limited edition, this one has its own mirror finish boxing and a velvet sleeve to protect it. Making a statement and finishing it, isnt it? A sheer, silky powder that features six shades of luminous colour that work blended together to illuminate areas of your face for a natural, brightened finish, this one’s all about pastel variations of pink, taupe, cream, and beige. They look dark in the tray, but brush them on, and you’ll be proud of how you look. Don’t let the shimmer intimidate you, just know how much to use and it will give you a look that’s quite seductive. A brightening pick-me-up for skin – slide this in your bag as this all-over powder will life you up.

I’d recommend keeping the eyes simple with Chanel’s automatic eye liner in black or even, or Brown’s gel pot eyeliner on the top lashes while teaming it with subtle powder based eye shadows like beige, brown and pink. A black mascara adds drama and feminity – so amp up those lashes with the Clinique mascara. For the lips I used Brown’s nude lip colour – which is simple, elegant and classy. It didn’t bleed, didn’t smudge and didn’t dry out my lips. It is just what is needed – a hint of colour with super moisturising abilities. And voila! Twirl around as you know you look and feel fresh…
