Beckons unites two boutique luxury travel brands into one global portfolio

Beckons Group Lodges
It is a union of Baillie Lodges and Tierra Hotels, with nine properties across four continents, $100 million in reinvestment, and a confirmed pipeline of new destinations.

With nine lodges, four continents, and a $100 million investment backing it, Beckons has arrived with both the ambition and the infrastructure to make its presence felt in luxury travel.

Beckons Group Lodges

The brand launched officially, bringing together two well-respected names in high-end experiential travel: Australia’s Baillie Lodges and Chile’s Tierra Hotels, both with more than 20 years of independent history. Baillie Lodges made its name by giving guests access to some of Australia’s most significant natural and cultural landscapes, many of them World Heritage-listed. Tierra Hotels built its identity through striking, design-led lodges placed deep inside Chile’s most remote wilderness. Brought together under one name, the two companies now form a portfolio of nine lodges across Australia, New Zealand, Chile, and Canada.

Each property averages 25 suites, kept small by design. That choice reflects a clear direction the travel industry has been moving toward for some time. CBRE’s 2025 Luxury Lodging Report points to a growing demand for authentic, immersive travel experiences among wealthy travelers, as well as a younger generation that is increasingly spending on experiences over possessions. According to a report by Grand View Research, the global boutique hotel market size was estimated at US$ 28.47 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach US$ 50.50 billion by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 7.5% from 2026 to 2033.

Michael Crawford has been appointed Chief Executive Officer for Beckons. Crawford brings experience from Four Seasons, where he developed a strong grounding in premium hospitality operations, and from The Walt Disney Company, where creating emotional, memorable experiences was the core business. That combination positions him well for a brand whose real product is not a room, but an experience people carry with them long after they leave.

Crawford said, “Our portfolio is a platform for travelers to experience the world more deeply through genuine cultural exchange. We believe meaningful travel should enrich everyone it touches: our guests, our teams, and the places that welcome us. Our people are at the heart of that hospitality philosophy, bringing a generosity of spirit and a shared commitment to emotional connection, regeneration, and cultural continuity to every journey.”

Beckons describes its approach as regenerative luxury, a step beyond simply being sustainable. The idea is that its lodges should actively improve the landscapes, wildlife, and communities around them, not just avoid causing harm. This philosophy is gaining real ground in high-end travel. Operators like Singita in Africa and &Beyond have spent the past decade proving that conservation-linked hospitality can be both commercially successful and genuinely impactful. For Beckons, the strength of that claim will depend on the track record its individual properties have already built, and on how consistently that standard holds as more lodges are added.

Investment has been significant. Beckons has put approximately US$100 million into its properties over recent years. Huka Lodge in New Zealand and Tierra Atacama in Chile were both fully renovated and reopened in early 2025. Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island, which was destroyed in the 2019 bushfires, was rebuilt and welcomed guests again in late 2023. New wellness facilities are planned at Silky Oaks Lodge and The Louise in Australia, and additional premium suites are in development at Tierra Patagonia, with that work continuing through 2026.

Beckons has confirmed it will keep growing, with new lodges and destinations to be added in the coming months. New locations will be selected based on their cultural and ecological significance, keeping the portfolio focused on places that are rare, remote, and genuinely worth the journey.
